Anabolic steroids are a huge part of the growing bodybuilding culture that hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. Since they were first invented, athletes from different sports have used them to enhance their looks and performance levels - but none as obvious as in bodybuilding.
Even though steroids are also widely used in other athletic disciplines, bodybuilding will sadly always be the poster image. A lot of this has to do with the (almost) impossible physiques that the sport has produced over the last couple of decades. It's literally impossible to assume that someone who weights nearly three-hundred pounds (of pure muscle) can do it naturally.
If you factor in all the people that use (and have used) anabolic steroids for muscle-building reasons, some people would actually instinctively think that they're not that dangerous. If they
were dangerous, people wouldn't use them, right? Wrong! Steroids are not only extremely dangerous, but they're also illegal. That doesn't stop people from using them, though.
Abusing these illegal compounds can generate a lot of health risks, and when I say a lot - I mean a lot. The crazy results that come from these substances don't magically appear from thin air; and as cool as getting huge really fast may be - it comes at a pretty expensive price.
Steroids modify the body's structure and functioning from all angles. As soon as you choose to fuel your physique with them - it's going to be like that from now on, unless you want to lose all
of your gains. Steroids substitute and shut down the body's hormone production. I mean, why should it produce hormones when someone else is giving them to it, right? Scientifically-speaking
that's a very simple way to explain how things work.
When someone quits using these illegal substances, the body loses all the synthetic muscle gains but it doesn't go back to normal. Considering that it stopped its hormone production - it will need an external source of hormones to at least function semi-normally. Add a long list of possible health risks to this and you have one huge reason to avoid steroids at all costs.
Anabolic steroids can cause many health issues, such as:
- Excessive Body Hair Growth
- Low Sex Drive And Infertility
- Mood Swings
- Acne and Oily Skin
- Water Retention
- Kidney and Liver Failure
- Cardiovascular Problems
- Death
No matter how you slice it - using steroids for building a physique just isn't worth it. As cool as walking around with a muscular frame may be - there's no substitute for being healthy. Plus, steroids aren't really necessary for building a great body! If you train hard and eat clean - you can and will build a physique that can rival those that are built synthetically. If will take a lot more time and hard work - but it's achievable.
Building a body naturally guarantees that you will be completely healthy and feel your best at all times. It also teaches patience, hard work and dedication - not to mention that it allows you to
appreciate the journey that much more. Natural bodybuilding is a lot more rewarding and allows you to be in tune with your body and understand how it works.
